# Privacy Policy
Effective date: 14 August 2026
RedGifs Video Downloader is designed to work locally in the user's Chromium-based browser.
## Data handled by the extension
The extension may process the following data when the user visits RedGIFS:
- the current RedGIFS page URL;
- visible page elements and media metadata needed to identify a video;
- RedGIFS media URLs and temporary API authorization required by the site;
- download settings and the stable IDs of successfully downloaded videos;
- diagnostic events, DOM geometry, HTTP statuses and error messages.
## How data is used
This data is used only to find requested media, assemble it locally, save it through the browser download manager, remember completed downloads, and generate a diagnostic log when requested.
## Storage and sharing
- The project has no developer-operated server.
- No analytics or telemetry is collected.
- No data is sold or shared by the developer.
- Settings and downloaded-video IDs remain in browser extension storage.
- Temporary diagnostic events remain in session storage and are exported only when the user clicks the diagnostic-log button.
- Media is not uploaded to a third-party service by this extension.
Normal communication with RedGIFS and its content-delivery infrastructure remains subject to RedGIFS' own privacy policy and terms.
## Diagnostic redaction
The diagnostic exporter removes URL query strings and fragments and replaces known token, authorization, cookie, credential, password and secret fields with `[redacted]`. Video bodies and API response bodies are not included. Users should still review a diagnostic file before sharing it.
## Removal
Users can erase extension settings and history by removing the extension or clearing its stored data in the browser.
